In the USA alone there are an estimated 25 billion 'disposable' coffee cups thrown away each year. The fact that due to health regulations the vast majority (90%+) of the paper in these cups is brand new virgin paper does not help matters. This prevents recycling and ensures that every single laminated paper cup ends up in landfill and begins to decompose.
